Governance

General Assembly

The General Assembly is UNIEF's highest decision-making body. It consists of all members and convenes at least once a year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Approving the annual report and financial statements
  • Electing the President, Board Members, and Auditor (if applicable)
  • Adopting amendments to the Statutes
  • Setting strategic direction and overall priorities
  • Approving membership and partnership frameworks

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors oversees the strategic, operational, and financial governance of the Federation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Defining medium-term priorities and programs
  • Supervising the Secretariat
  • Approving annual work plans, budgets, and partnerships
  • Ensuring institutional integrity and compliance with Swiss law and Statutes

The Board represents UNIEF internationally and ensures continuity of governance between General Assembly sessions.

Secretariat

The Secretariat is responsible for day-to-day management, program delivery, membership relations, and external coordination.

Functions

  • Implementing Board decisions
  • Managing UNIEF programs and initiatives
  • Supporting members and partners
  • Coordinating events, working groups, and publications
  • Overseeing communications, administration, and trustmark activities

The Secretariat operates under the direction of the Secretary General.

Supporting Structures

UNIEF may also establish:

Advisory Committees

To provide expert input on areas such as AI, payments, logistics, sustainability, and consumer protection.

Working Groups

Time-bound or thematic bodies led by members and partners to develop good practices, guidelines, or capacity-building activities.

Regional Chapters

Optional structures to support coordination across MENA, Europe, Africa, Asia, or the Americas if future expansion requires it.

These bodies operate under mandates approved by the Board.
